Taisuke Nakamura is senior design director for INFINITI brand design, responsible for global design strategy, production and concept vehicle design for the brand. He is based at Nissan Global design Center (GDC) in Atsugi, Japan. He reports to Alfonso Albaisa, Senior Vice President, Global design, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
Born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, Nakamura's career in automotive design began in 1993 when his joined Nissan. His first projects included Altima (1997), Sunny (1998) and Almera Tino (1998). In 1999, he spent a year in the UK to further his studies in automotive design at the Royal College of Art. Upon his return, Nakamura continued his creative work as a designer in projects like QX56 (2004) and the 2003 INFINITI Triant Concept. In 2009, he was promoted to associate product chief designer and led multiple production programs and concepts, such as the Nissan Ellure (2010) .
In 2011, Nakamura arrived in the UK on a foreign assignment to Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in London as design manager. He led many notable design programs such as the Nissan Qashqai (2014), INFINITI EMERG-E (2012) and Q30 Concepts (2015), Nissan IDX (2013) and Gripz (2015) concepts. In 2012, Nakamura assumed the position of design director of NDE and spearheaded the creation of the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo.
Nakamura returned to GDC in 2015 as design director and led the INFINITI Q50 design refresh. He was soon promoted to program design director for Nissan brand and managed the Nissan IMx concept (2017), all-new Nissan Sylphy/Sentra (2019) and Juke (2019) development. In 2018, he was appointed to program design director for Infiniti and led many initiatives including the iconic EV concepts QX Inspiration, Qs Inspiration and Prototype 10, as well as the QX55 (2020) and QX60 (2021) production model.
In 2019, Nakamura was named senior design director responsible for broader areas of INFINITI brand and vehicle design. His responsibility expanded in 2022 to include advance and UX/UI design as a division general manager. INFINITI QX Monograph concept, unveiled at the 2023 Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance in Carmel, CA USA, is among the latest creations by his team.
