YOKOHAMA, Japan — Ready for the spotlight, the all-new 2022 INFINITI QX55 is primed to take the stage.
The latest crossover in the automaker's exceptional lineup combines INFINITI's award-winning Variable Compression Turbo engine with unapologetic style, inside and out. The 2022 QX55 offers inspired driving dynamics thanks to a raft of impressive hardware including standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, 20-inch alloy wheels, INFINITI's Drive Mode Selector, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. To complement — and compliment — any inspired drive, INFINITI's Active Sound Enhancement system engages the driver with richer engine notes.
“More than just a head-turner, soon customers will discover the all-new INFINITI QX55 is also thrilling to drive,” said INFINITI Chairman Peyman Kargar. “Along with its expressive and daring looks, its VC-Turbo powertrain and standard all-wheel drive complement any driver with all-weather confidence and poise on the road.”
With standard all-wheel drive, the EPA rates the 2022 INFINITI QX55 at 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, 25 mpg combined thanks to INFINITI's VC-Turbo engine, the world's first production variable-compression turbocharged engine3.
In addition to its dynamic driving attitude, the QX55 supports drivers with available ProPILOT Assist4 that can help brake, center the vehicle in its lane, and accelerate. Every QX55 is equipped with Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Blind Spot Intervention, and Lane Departure Prevention are available to add to the already impressive suite of standard active safety features.
An available Head-Up Display allows drivers to keep their eyes on the horizon ahead. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay™ compatibility ensures all passengers can stay informed and entertained with seamless smartphone integration.
The 2022 INFINITI QX55 goes on sale this spring in three well-equipped grades: LUXE, ESSENTIAL, and SENSORY, for $46,500 MSRP to start. Reservations5 for the provocative all-new crossover are available now for customers in the U.S. via a unique digital experience.
Dynamic drive, capable performance
The all-new 2022 INFINITI QX55 is powered by an award-winning 2.0-liter four-cylinder VC-Turbo engine that makes 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque and returns up to 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, 25 mpg combined, according to the EPA. The VC-Turbo engine seamlessly alters its compression ratio between 8:1 and 14:1 to deliver improved efficiency or power, as the driver demands. That's due to a patented multi-link system that can raise or lower the pistons' stroke based on the driver's preference for more power or better efficiency. Combined with an Active Torque Rod engine mount, which isolates and dampens engine vibrations, the QX55's VC-Turbo engine delivers dynamic performance without compromising interior comfort.
Coupled to a smooth Continuously Variable Transmission with standard steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, the QX55's lively powertrain aims to impress with its refinement and responsiveness. New torque converter and lock-up timing, and revised shift mapping for better low-speed response and highway efficiency highlight the enhancements included under the QX55's skin compared to previous iterations of the powertrain. The QX55's Drive Mode Selector changes the throttle response, engine mapping, and other characteristics to meet the driver where they expect it — whether spirited or sedate.
INFINITI's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system is equipped on all QX55 models and offers all-weather capability with outstanding driving dynamics. The system can shuttle up to 50% of its available power to the rear wheels for better grip on low-friction surfaces or at takeoff when needed, or drive the front wheels only for better efficiency.
"Capable and intelligent all-wheel drive helps to power the all-new QX55 to impressive heights for drivers," said Eric Rigaux, general manager of product planning for INFINITI. "We aim to empower drivers with a confident, competent powertrain beneath them to thrill — or chill — as needed."
The highly rigid structure for the QX55 features a four-ring body construction with high-tensile strength steel used throughout for enhanced safety, stiffness, and a quieter cabin. In combination with a four-wheel independent suspension, the QX55 aims to deliver a confident, controlled ride — even on 20-inch wheels with run-flat tires — with precise handling.
Available on the 2022 INFINITI QX55, Direct Adaptive Steering replaces a mechanical steering column with sensors and electric motors that can adapt to the driver and optimize the steering feel. When equipped, personalized steering modes with selectable steering response settings — including Dynamic and Dynamic+ — offer an individualized feel for each drive. The system actively adjusts at speed for greater maneuverability or confidence and filters out unwanted vibrations while providing enough feedback to engage and support the driver. Electric power steering is standard on QX55 models not equipped with DAS and toggles between Standard and Sport modes for a linear, direct feel.
The QX55 utilizes 13.0-inch front ventilated rotors and 12.1-inch rear ventilated rotors with floating calipers to confidently slow the vehicle in nearly any circumstance.
Relaxing confines, integrated tech
As much as the all-new 2022 INFINITI QX55 aims to engage its driver, it also aims to ease its driver and passengers.
Acoustic front side glass and uniquely stamped patterns in the floor pan passively hush harsh exterior noises. At the same time, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) actively quells unwanted frequencies inside the cabin for a comfortable ride. With ANC, three internal microphones phase-shift unwelcome noises out of the cabin for a quieter drive.
The four-wheel independent suspension utilizes MacPherson struts up front with a multi-link configuration at the rear to help smother road imperfections and deliver a confident ride. The all-new QX55 uses Active Brake Limited Slip systems not only to brake individual wheels for better grip when needed but also to engage Active Trace Control to imperceptibly brake inside wheels at entry, mid-corner, or exit to draw a tighter line.
An available Head-Up Display projected onto a 9-inch area of the windshield relays vital information to the driver without taking his or her eyes off the road and can show warnings for slower traffic ahead, turn guidance for navigation, Lane Departure Warning information, and speed information including Traffic Sign Recognition.
A Bose Performance Series audio system is available with 16 speakers and beautifully renders crystal-clear audio into the cabin for a personal concert experience everywhere the QX55 goes. Bose's Centerpoint 2 technology automatically converts two-channel stereo sound into a virtual surround sound listening experience via advanced digital signal processing.
Wireless Apple CarPlay functionality debuts for INFINITI in the QX55 and seamlessly pairs compatible devices with the infotainment system to entertain and inform wherever the crossover goes. Android Auto compatibility via USB connection is standard as well, one of four USB ports that the crossover offers, ensuring the QX55 can pair with nearly any smartphone available today. In addition to infotainment possibilities, the QX55 can connect to the outside world via a fast 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot to support up to seven devices as standard equipment.
INFINITI InTouch infotainment pairs dual touchscreens — 8-inch upper and 7-inch lower — with INFINITI Voice Recognition, HD Radio technology, Siri Eyes Free, SiriusXM Radio (with a 90-day complimentary trial), and INFINITI InTouch Services to serve the driver and passengers. Navigation is available in the QX55 and includes five years of complimentary access to traffic information and MapCare available via over-the-air updates.
The expanded suite of InTouch services, included to new owners for one year after purchase, includes access to INFINITI's mobile app that can lock and unlock, remotely start6, and locate the QX55 from a connected smartphone or wearable device. The INFINITI Personal Assistant is just a tap away, too, and offers concierge services as part of the first year's trial (subscription required after). For peace of mind, Automatic Collision Notification and Emergency Call can notify first responders if the QX55 is involved in a serious crash.
Decadent interior, daring exterior
At its heart, the 2022 INFINITI QX55 is a highwater-mark for provocative design and bold style among similarly styled crossovers. The all-new QX55 channels the spirit of the groundbreaking INFINITI FX that created the coupe crossover segment nearly two decades ago.
"The all-new 2022 QX55 channels the pioneering design spirit that INFINITI has maintained since the beginning of the brand," said Head of INFINITI Design Taisuke Nakamura. "With its unmistakable bold presence and uncompromised looks thanks to its dramatic roofline, the QX55 is a beacon for style among INFINITI crossovers."
The QX55's daring roofline doesn't sacrifice practicality for style: the QX55's 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear is tops among competitors. That cargo area is easily accessible thanks to INFINITI's new integrated power liftgate release button at the back, hidden within the logo, which is standard on all models. A foot-activated power liftgate is available for even more convenience and flexibility.
Inside, the QX55 offers up to 38.7 inches of rear-seat legroom with a sliding second row that maximizes interior passenger comfort or cargo capacity depending on need. The 60/40-split folding second row quickly tumbles forward for up to 54.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
Throughout the cabin, the QX55's rich interior and driver-centric layout engages and entertains. Its tailored and precision-stitched materials provide a captivating interior, while "zero gravity" seats in the front support and comfort a wide range of body types.
Genuine dark aluminum trim is standard on most QX55 grade levels and offers a richly textured surface throughout the dash and doors. Black Natural Maple open-pore wood trim is available on the QX55 that, when paired with the available Monaco Red semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, marries expressive and organic themes inside.
Owners can select an interior color combination that complements their style with up to three available color combinations: Graphite, Stone, and the stunning Monaco Red. Eight expressive exterior shades are available for the QX55, including two standout hues, Dynamic Sunstone Red and Slate Gray. Majestic White, Liquid Platinum, Graphite Shadow, Mineral Black, Black Obsidian, and Hermosa Blue are also available.
The all-new 2022 INFINITI QX55 arrives in dealerships across the U.S. and Canada beginning in spring 2021.
