Yokohama, Japan – Looking at a new INFINITI won't be the same after today.
At the global launch of its vision for the future QX60 three-row crossover, the QX60 Monograph*, INFINITI set a new bar for a "virtual" reveal with an interactive, immersive, and multi-medium presentation that transcended the traditional, auto show-style presentation.
Combining augmented and virtual reality, live-action video, and rendered footage, the INFINITI QX60 Monograph crossover unveiled at the automaker's new global headquarters premiered a new concept for a rapidly changing media and global landscape.
The reveal transported viewers from virtual stages from Nissan's walkway into its global headquarters — recognizable to millions — to the new INFINITI brand gallery opening soon in Yokohama, to the inner confines of the Atsugi INFINITI design studio. The reveal went beyond just pulling a sheet back; using augmented reality, participants could "place" a 3D QX60 Monograph in their driveways after the reveal. Additional information about the QX60 Monograph was provided to media and consumers via a QR code.
"This year is requiring everyone in the industry to get creative in how we bring cars to market. We wanted to rethink the virtual reveal and design it as a truly virtual experience that would be compelling and interactive for customers and media around the world," said Phil York, general manager of INFINITI Global Brand and Marketing.
The immersive experience fit well within the road to bring the INFINITI QX60 Monograph to life — both virtually and in person.
"We use AR and VR to design cars every day, but this is the first time that I have actually been inside a virtual experience," said Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president for Global Design for Nissan Motor Company, who was transported into a virtual rendition of his INFINITI design studio for the reveal.
The virtual reveal was created in partnership with Sydney, Australia-based Curiious, an award-winning content creation studio that specializes in immersive experiences.
